A small construction firm by the name of Nan Inc. was founded in Hawaii in 1990 and no one could have fathomed that within three decades, it would become a construction behemoth. Yet, this is exactly what the company has achieved in the last thirty years, something not many companies in the field of construction can claim to have done. The firm has expanded and grown quickly and the secret to its success lies in its commitment to deliver quality and excellence in every project it undertakes. This is the mantra of the man behind Nan Inc., its founder, Patrick Shin.
He was named Nan Chul Shin when he was living in South Korea and dreamt of being an entrepreneur. Upon moving to the United States, he decided to change his name to adjust to the new culture. They had a tough time in the initial years and he worked with his brother on his fishing business. Luckily, he landed a football scholarship that gave him a chance to study business administration at Bowling Green State University. After completing his education, he worked as a construction laborer for two years before deciding to fulfill his dream of having his own company.
That’s how Nan Inc. was born and it had very humble beginnings because there was only one employee and no such resources. But, Patrick Shin was determined and he singlehandedly turned his company into a success. His net worth today is between $10 and $50 million and it wasn’t something he could have achieved if he had gotten demotivated at any point. There was a lot of competition and there were little or no projects initially. The ones they did get were very small, such as installation of a road sign, but he wasn’t discouraged.
The company grew rapidly due to his efforts and has become a prominent name in Hawaii’s construction industry. As for Patrick Shin himself, he recently made headlines due to charity during COVID-19 by Nan Inc. founder. Despite achieving so much success and accumulating so much wealth, he has not forgotten who he was. The man continues to work for the betterment of the state of Hawaii and for the community. His company and he himself sponsor different events, or make donations and contributions to causes and charities. Therefore, during the coronavirus pandemic, he did not hesitate in lending financial support where necessary, as it created a tough situation for everyone.
